MHS’s third annual tournament on July 2, 2024, at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J., opened up our 13th season. A cool sea breeze and phenomenal course conditions made for another memorable day. We especially thank our host, Rob Wolf, for his wonderful hospitality. His passion for golf is infectious and it’s always a pleasure to pick his brain about golf course architecture and Walter J. Travis.
With regard to our play, there were a number of sub-90 gross rounds; an impressive feat on a golf course that boasts over 190 bunkers and slippery greens. Our chairman, Bill Martin, ensured us that no funny business occurred during the scorecard tabulations calculated by the co-chairman. All kidding aside, it’s an honor to play with such passionate golfers who appreciate the true spirit of the game.
Results:
1st Gross: Jared Paletti (86) & Tim Alpaugh (86)
1st Reserve: Jared Paletti (70)
2nd Reserve: Mike Guerrero (73) & Mike O’Donnell (73)
The motto of the Metropolitan Hickory Society is “Extolling the traditional spirit of the royal and ancient game.” After hosting a successful 2023 U.S. Hickory Open at the Inwood Country Club in Inwood, N.Y., we can say with assurance there is no hickory group in the country that takes its motto more to heart than this group of gentlemen.
