2025 China Hickory Open to Be Held in Hainan Island
The Inaugural China Hickory Open was successfully held on November 11-12, 2024 at the Hidden Grace Golf Club in Shenzhen, organized jointly by the China Golf Museum and the Society of China Hickory Golfers. More than 60 players from China and around the world dressed in traditional golf attire, swinging 100-year-old hickory sticks on the modern golf course, enjoyed the first hickory open championship in China, promoting the history and culture of modern golf. Nine golfers(including four professionals)came from Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the U.K. The youngest hickory golfer was 11 and the oldest 80, with 26 lady golfers playing. The four groups of the event, the Open, Ladies, Seniors and Statesmen, each competed for the gold and silver medals in gross and /net scores. The Open Champion, Ladies Champion and the Best Amateur each was awarded a 100-year-old China export silver trophy, with their names etched on a silver plate of the trophy stand.
Mr. Paolo Quirici, professional golfer from Switzerland who won the Open Champion, said: “The first China Hickory Open is in the books. This was a hell of a tournament and a wonderful effort has been made to please all the participants.” In his article sent to the Autumn/Winter issue of A Wee Nip, official journal of the U.S. Society of Hickory Golfers, Mr. Quirici writes: “If you missed this inaugural event, the very first China Hickory Open, you have most definitely missed out on the most impressive and well-organized hickory event I have ever had the chance to attend and play so far in my 12 years as a hickory player.”
The second China Hickory Open will be played at the No. 3 Course at the noted Mission Hills Golf Club in Haikou, Hainan Island on November 11-12, 2025. Players have the option to play the No. 2 Course on November 13 and the public Grand Quarry Golf Course on November 14. In the meantime, China Golf Museum will have a week-long display of artifacts at Mission Hills. The organizers believe that the 2025 China Hickory Open will attract hickory golfers from China and around the world to visit China’s Hainan Special Trade Province to experience yet another international hickory tournament in commemoration of the history and culture of golf!
